The Study of Prevalence of Childhood Obesity and Relationship Among Constitution, Lifestyle and Obesity

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives: We investigated the prevalence of childhood obesity and relationship among constitution, lifestyle and obesity.
Methods: The subjects of this study were elementary students. The subjects were classified using Sasang constitution questionnaire. We investigated life style such as dietary habits and physical activities. and measured Body compositon has been accessed bio-impedence analyzer(inbody 720). This results were statistically analyzed using SPSS 12.0.
Results and Conclusions:
1. Of those 649 observed, 295(45.46%)were categorized in Soyang-in, 204(31.43%) in Taeum-in, and 150(23.11%) in Soum-in.
2. On IOTF(International Obesity Task Force) criteria. The prevalence of childhood obesity was 7.78%. On KPS(The Korean Pediatric Society) criteria, the prevalence of childhood obesity was 16.05%. IOTF criteria underestimated the prevalence of child obesity compared to KPS criteria.
3. In IOTF group and KPS group, there were a positive correlation of PBF(%fat)(p<0.05).
4. In Taeum-in group, prevalence of obesity was significantly higher than Soum-in group (P<0.05).
5. In Taeum-in group, PBF, WHR(Waist-Hip Ratio), Waist and AC(Arm Circumference) were significantly higher than the other groups(P<0.05).
6. In Soum-in group, PBF, WHR, Waist and AC were significantly lower than the other groups and LBMP(Lean Body Mass Percent) was significantly higher than the other groups (P<0.05).
7. In Soyang-in group, BMR(Basal Metabolic Rate) was significantly higher than the other groups (P<0.05).
8. Obese primary school children were related with life style such as above 2hour watching TV, snacking after dinner, eating while watching TV or Reading book, favorite for eating vegatable and eating regardless of hunger.
